It’s time to Rock Your Firefox!

Tuesday, Mar 9, 2010

Welcome to Rock Your Firefox, a place for Firefox users to discover cool new add-ons, or just learn what add-ons are all about.

So what are Firefox Add-ons? You can think of them as apps that let you customize your Firefox browser. As a global community, Mozilla pioneered the personalized Web browser with Firefox Add-ons. For the first time, users could pick and choose ways to customize their unique online experience. And today hundreds of millions of people worldwide have downloaded nearly 2 billion add-ons.

We’re launching Rock Your Firefox to feature reviews, feedback, and insights from people around the Web who are using Firefox Add-ons to make their online experience better. There are thousands of ways to customize your browser with Firefox Add-ons in categories like social, communication, travel and photos, music and video. An add-on can be a new time-saving sidebar, a shortcut to search, or a themed look. So for anything you spend time doing on the Web, whether it’s listening to your favorite songs, shopping on Amazon.com, or checking the weather in the mountains, there’s probably an add-on that makes those activities easier and more enjoyable.

Add-ons are awesome, but many people don’t know how to take full advantage of them. We want to change that, because using Firefox without exploring add-ons is a little like visiting Rome but never leaving your five-star hotel. The service may be impeccable, but you’ll miss out big time if you don’t get out and see the sights.

So check back often. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we’ll highlight relevant and helpful Firefox Add-ons. Subscribe to our feed and follow us on Twitter to keep in touch.

Let’s get started!  Check our our first featured add-on, Yoono!

Nice! I’m already a user of Firefox add-ons (having the weather forecast, email notifications and twitter on the status bar is ESSENTIAL) and I’ll be checking back here to see if I discover a new useful tool.

Personas is one of my favorite plugins. I use it to customize the browser when I work on a client’s computer. It easily gives me one more plug for my business.

However, my favorite is probably Adblock Plus because it makes surfing faster since you’re not downloading all the ads online, plus that will inherently block certain malware from seeping through!

    AdBlock Plus
    Cooliris
    DownThemAll
    Xmarks

just to name a few of my favorites… yeah good job, keep on doing it, i like the initiative!

Just what is needed. I’ve a few questions:

    1. Hasn’t Mozilla heard of ‘duplication of effort?’ Why not put the stuff here in the main add-on site?

2.I’m having trouble keeping track of the Mozilla sites. I find various lists, but they always miss quite a bunch. Consolidate guys. A focused army is a winning army.

You might want to warn the users about the future scope of this site. If i were a new user, should I visit this site? Will the main addon site disorient me?

But seriously Firefox, you didn’t know there was going to be a Window near the ‘f’ in Firefox when you designed this graphic? It’s OK, maybe the window in that spot was New and you Didnt Know, otherwise it would seem like very poor planning and is a shame for your whole group. So I hope it’s the former and not the latter.

@John Skinner — I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to, but if it’s the photograph, that wasn’t something we designed. It’s a real picture taken by a community member.

“Weather” info is way behind reality, mostly incorrect.

    Not enough “Search Engine” selection.

Massive Firefox fan but whats the point? There is already a addon site so why two? Just seems to be a way to cause confusion. When I go to Tools – Addons – See all recommended Addons I go to the standard addon site so is this just some mickey mouse copy site? Hate the design, looks like the designer spent too much time on drugs and not a lot of time on this planet. To be honest I will not use this site as I am not sure it is not a scam site, its horrendous to look at and it is not linked to by Firefox. It doesn’t even look like a Mozilla site so it doesn’t inspire any confidence.
