I love to wander the aisles of my favorite bookshop, waiting for something to grab my attention. With StumbleUpon I find that same joy online. And what starts as random reading can easily become rock-solid research or sites worth sharing.
Here’s how it works: Hit the Stumble! button and fresh content appears. Click “thumbs up” to like or “thumbs down” to dislike and StumbleUpon learns your preferences, serving up increasingly relevant sites. And we’re off:
Stumble! takes me to www.cookingbynumbers.com. I check off what’s in my fridge (apples, fish, oranges) and my pantry (lentils and coffee) to get recipes. Hmm…not really for me.
Stumble! for a Wikipedia “List of Legendary Creatures,” including “Abarimon“, a savage humanoid with backward feet and “Chukwa“, a giant turtle that supports the world. Thumbs up—I like it!
I stop to “Update Topics” (from the toolbar, go to All –> Update Topics) which takes me to the “Manage Interests” part of the StumbleUpon website. I check off “Magic/Illusions”, “Cult Films”, and others in categories like Commerce, Outdoors, Religion, Sports and Media.
Stumble! again for a wild ride through NPR Bestseller Lists for Paperback Fiction, that I share using a drop-down menu for facebook, Twitter and email.
For this game to be fun, it has to be fast. And that means you have to decide what you like and don’t like in an instant. So, up for a treasure hunt? See what you can find with StumbleUpon.
