Amazon Assist

Monday, May 10, 2010

Discover relevant Amazon products as you search on the Web. AmazonAssist Firefox Add-on uses your search key words to find matching products on Amazon.com.

The Web was made for shopping. You can find exactly what you want, when you want it, and (with a few exceptions), for the price you want. And if all else fails, you can probably find someone to hand craft the object of your desire, made to order.

Firefox Add-ons that help us find what we’re looking for faster are always a good idea. And AmazonAssist steps forward in an instant to show you products related to your Web search terms. After you install AmazonAssist, the rest is easy. You start your product search on major search engines, shopping sites, or in the AmazonAssist search bar at the bottom of your browser.

For example, when I searched for “Dyson vacuum” on Craiglist, AmazonAssist pulled the latest pricing, review ratings, availability and other product information related to Dysons from Amazon.com in real time.

There are helpful customizations for Amazon Prime members and you can use the built-in Amazon directory to visit the Amazon homepage, deals, your account or any department.

Plus, a single click on the tiny “a” in the bottom right of your browser disables AmazonAssist for non-shopping related searches.

Happy Shopping!

It’s look like a very powerful adwertings method.

But I realy don’t understand why should I see one more ad when I am browsing… isn’t there enough?

I’ve already used it. It’s really quite helpful for comparison shopping and discovering items I didn’t know were available.

I’m not quite sure what the value of this is, other than to give Amazon more control over what you see when browsing the web. If I am searching for a product, Amazon’s results are usually there anyway.
