Each day new bits of information float into our lives: business cards, favorite billboards, an interesting news article (be it print or digital). These things can be random–or relevant–but they are rarely organized…
You might be gathering your info in a creative way, like picking up an interesting postcard or taking a photo of a striated stone that simply strikes your fancy. Or you could be more driven and defined, saving paint chips and contractor contact info as you redesign your house.
Whatever your agenda, Evernote gives you a way to aggregate all the info that enters your life through your browser, phone or computer. The Evernote Web Clipper Add-on focuses on Web info, making it that much easier to get clips of webpages into your Evernote account.
If you’re like me, this add-on is part of your introduction to Evernote. You’ll need to sign up for an account (pretty straightforward):
And I watched this video as an introduction:
It’s a pretty simple concept, but you get the most out of it by using it for a while and working out any roadblocks. Evernote focuses on three different kinds of information: text, snapshots, audio and Web clips.
The Evernote Add-on helps out with the last part, Web clips. Once you’ve installed the add-on, you’ll see a button in your browser, to the left of your address bar. It’s a gray elephant on a green background:
When you’re viewing something you’d like to “clip” and save in your Evernote account, just hit the elephant. A box will open up within the web page you’re viewing and make saving to Evernote quick and easy:
Just hit “save” and it shows up in your Evernote account:
Die-hard Evernote fans will be thrilled about the Evernote Add-on, and once new users get familiar with Evernote, they’ll love it too.
