Google Shortcuts

Display all Google services as buttons next to your address bar, or as a dropdown menu. Reach services like Gmail, Google reader, Google maps, Google calendar, and more in a single click from your browser.

We all know Google is synonymous with searching, and chances are you use at least one of the multitudes of services Google offers. With Google Shortcuts, those services’ icons line up next to your address bar for instant access, or in a dropdown menu, if that’s more your style.

Once you install Google Shortcuts, you’ll automatically see the icons in your address bar. I’ve circled them here in yellow:

They can also appear as a drop down menu:

To reconfigure the icons into a dropdown menu, click on the sprocket-like Services icon (it’s the last icon circled in the first image above). Select “Display Options” from the menu and choose “Dropdown Menu” You can also adjust other settings while you’re here.

You should also check out the “Services selection” tab in the Settings Menu. Browse a list of available services to select which ones you’d like to show in your browser. Wow.

This add-on is a great way to eliminate extra clicks in your online life. Get to all the Google services you use quickly and easily.

It’s also just worth taking a look at the list of available Google services—you might discover a new service you love. I counted over 85 available services to include in your Google Shortcuts experience, many of them quite unique and specific.

Post from Elise Allen, who prefers the dropdown menu herself--but both make life just a bit nicer. See all posts by Elise Allen.

    This is a nice addon, and it’s easier than keeping the list updated yourself. The only problem is that he publishes point releases constantly, which means that an ad-covered upgrade notice appears every few weeks. For those who don’t want this, skip the worthless upgrades or just skip the extension altogether.

    Nice app. One annoying thing is that it doesn’t open in a new tab. Hope this can be fixed

    @Jacques

    There’s a setting for ‘always open a new tab’… give that a try!

    Google sites opened with these buttons CAN be opened in separate tabs. For the Add-on: –> Options –> Display Options –> Tab behavior.

    Great Add-on!
