TV-FOX

Watch over 2,500 television channels sorted by country and category. Free news, sports, movies and other entertainment broadcast from your browser.

Editor’s Note: TV-FOX is currently undergoing a review by our editor team to ensure that their latest update meets our standards. Until then, TV-FOX is Experimental, which means that only the adventurous should try it out. We’ll update this post as needed.

TV will always be my most persistent vice. So I really had a blast getting to know TV-FOX.

The actual experience was reminiscent of watching the tiny TV that occupied a forgotten corner at my family’s beach house. A wad of tinfoil tethered to the end of thick metal rabbit ears made efforts to boost reception, but if you’d been stung by a jellyfish or otherwise forced to stay inside, that TV could be your saving grace. You chose from two channels broadcast out of the closest Gulf Coast town, and while the topics were varied, that TV always took the edge off the sting.

To be fair, my TV-FOX experience was daytime viewing, and it actually has thousands of channels—more than 2,500. It’s the eclectic experience that reminded me of that childhood TV. So although TV-FOX is not quite like what you get with a satellite dish, it’s thoroughly enjoyable.

My favorite program was “Astro TV – Germany”. I got to watch a tarot card reading in German. I found it under “Lifestyle” TV.

When installing TV-FOX I discovered that I didn’t have the Windows Media Player plugin, but I was able to download it easily. Once you’re done with installation, you’ll see two icons in your browser, near the address window. The icons look like…TVs:

The second TV lists viewing options by category:

You can watch four channels at once (our beach house TV never did that!):

TV-FOX is perhaps part of a modern miracle. Who could have dreamed we’d watch TV right from our browser? Try it out and see for yourself.

Doesn’t work on Mac at all. Keep asking a Widow’s only plug-in or just a small black screen…
Please check for a better solution, nice try though.

Downloaded the add-on and the plug-in. I tried a dozen stations and most were off line. The ESPN station just showed a frozen picture of very low quality resolution. IMHO this add-on is a bust. I will continue trying to use if for a little while longer but unless things improve dramatically, I will remove the add-on.

Be patient! A solution is being developed to make dial-up lines have much more bandwidth without changing the dial-up system hardware. It will at least enable you to improve your situation, though it will not match cable or DSL speeds.

Have you looked into using a satellite modem? I believe there are a couple satellite systems available; one of them is from Microsoft, I believe, but I am not certain. Send me your email address and I will reply to you when I have something which may help.

      Good Luck!

Asking around to those in the know, they tell me that one needs at least 8megs of bandwidth to watch streaming TV.

I know it’s unusable with my 2meg service.

Why would anyone create this page touting an add-on without including the word “Download” or “Visit the developer’s page” or “Get TV-FOX” ? That to me is imbecilic. You’re not being slick or cool by embedding the link in a paragraph.

Thanks Marco, That’s a fair point. Usually these posts have a big button “Get ___”. I believe we took that down for TV-FOX for now because we didn’t want users to rush ahead and use the add-on without reading the Editor’s Note at the top of the post:

Editor’s Note: TV-FOX is currently undergoing a review by our editor team to ensure that their latest update meets our standards. Until then, TV-FOX is Experimental, which means that only the adventurous should try it out. We’ll update this post as needed.

So I guess the channels are the same free channels you get though any free tv site? Stuff like that German tarot reading mentioned. It never caught on with me when I tried it a few years ago…
I mean, I expect you don’t get any “real” networks from the US, UK etc, right?

I have a DSL connection. Most, out of about 30 stations that I tried connecting to this morning were offline. It’s Sunday and I even checked out the religious stations. You would think they’d be broadcasting today! It’s early morning in the U.S., so I also checked stations in other countries where it should be midday, but many there were “offline” too. This seemed promising at first, but in the end it seems like just a continuous stream of pop-up windows (the player) advertising tv-in-pc.com. The claim of thousands of available stations is a gross overstatement. I guess you get what you pay for, but I’m surprised that Firefox has this listed, for it really isn’t “rocking my firefox”!

I don’t think this is a good app at all. The few stations I tried either didn’t work or didn’t show the right channel. The selection of stations from the US are all minor stations with a few exceptions, which didn’t work. And “minor” is being generous, as is “stations”. Some are just feeds from websites. I’ve already uninstalled this.

Seemingly, no-one has the same problem as I have: a small black screen for every channel. The link-icons work OK (facebook, tell a friend, delicious) but no channel. Are they blocked for Belgium?
I got no answer to my Q on the ‘contact us’….link.
Is the solution too simple for me to see?

I have that problem, too. Just black screens, but the ads and stuff work. Well, the Hulu thing worked, but ofcourse that isn’t streaming live, so I guess that might be what made that one able to work. I can’t even get USA stations, though. Not even stations from the state I live in. I’m going to continue to see if I can find a solution, because I would really like to use this.

Installed the add-on, installed the wmp plugin, still NOTHING. Just another bit of additional weight that now slows Firefox down when starting up even more. It took 10 minutes for my browser to appear onscreen after installing the plugin. Not one channel I have tried plays anything. Black popup window with the few toolbar buttons and that’s it. And big companies wonder why torrents, DVDRips, and Megavideo, etc., are still BIG. Give us what we want and we won’t have to go stealing it. If you claim to give us what we want, please make sure it WORKS!
