Even though summer is in full swing, I’m sure some of you are still making travel plans. It may be a little late in the game to find a great fare, but why not try and hedge your bets with the Yapta Firefox Add-on? Yapta helps track and compare the flights you’re searching for. And they notify you when prices drop.
Once you’ve installed the add-on you’ll be prompted to sign up for the Yapta service. Get your account set up and then search for flights from the list of Yapta-supported airline sites, including Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, and about seven others:
Click the “Tag it with Yapta” button next to each flight which interests you. This gets Yapta started tracking prices:
Yapta is a bit different than other travel search tools I’ve used. It’s not tracking travel between two cities, it’s tracking specific routes and flights. This approach eliminates a lot of info about cheaper flights which don’t leave at the right times or have too many stops along the way.
Yapta emails you when your ticket price drops, even after you purchase your ticket:
The idea is that you could challenge the airline for a refund or credit by pointing out that you paid a higher price than they’re currently offering for the same flight. I’ve never tried that, but it may work.
I’m adding Yapta to my arsenal of low-priced airfare search tools. It’s different from most and can probably help us all keep travel cost down.
