Input a search on a topic on a search engine and you’re likely to pull up an entry from Wikipedia or Youtube in the first few pages of results alongside other listings from across the web. But what if your search results could be a little bit smarter? What if you could personalize your search queries with results from the websites that you spend your time on most, like social networks, news or shopping sites?
Search Tabs has stepped up to the plate to do just that. Enter a search on your search engine of choice — Google, Bing or Yahoo — and Search Tabs will seek out relevant information from a list of sites you visit frequently, be it Facebook, LinkedIn, Amazon, eBay or others.
You can even customize using your own sources. Got a news site or blog that you follow? Simply add the URL to Search Tabs’ list and your sources will be scanned from then on, too.
Search Tabs is also very respectful of your screen estate: It pops as an unobtrusive tab on the right hand side of your search engine’s results, expands when you click on it and disappears entirely when you browse somewhere else.
Overall, Search Tabs is an incredibly handy tool, one that I believe truly enhances searching the web and finding relevant information. Try it yourself and let me know what you think.
